The Planting Hope initiative, spearheaded by the TwoWings Foundation in Austria, collaborates with local foundations in their operating regions. Notably, the initiative supports the 'Transforming the Environment' program by FUNDAEC in Colombia and the 'Environmental Health' program by Zambia's Inshindo Foundation. Both of these foundations engage local communities in agro-forestry practices and informative workshops. Hence, the responsibility of planting and nurturing the trees is a collective effort shared between these foundations and the involved local communities.

Right now, our tree-planting heartbeats are in Zambia and Colombia, but we've got big plans to branch out.Zambia: Amidst challenges like climate change repercussions, increased industrialization, and economic hitches, our vision in Zambia is to sow seeds of change with reforestation and community empowerment.Colombia: Beyond its famed biodiversity, Colombia contends with socio-economic strains. In regions like the communes of Cali, we're working to alleviate problems such as unemployment and the scars of enduring conflicts. Moreover, with the Amazon rainforest—Colombia's green lung—facing threats, our mission is twofold: to fortify this ecosystem and transform the lives of its adjacent communities.

10. Which tree species are planted in the designated regions?

Planted trees are a diverse range of over 68 tree species tailored to the preferences of local communities. These species encompass over 22 botanical families, primarily native but including varieties from India, Asia, Africa, and Brazil. The selection of tree species is ever evolving, influenced by feedback from project participants.

12. How does the Planting Hope project bear the notion of solidarity and social cohesion in its programs?

The Planting Hope supported programs work with the indigenous people of the areas so that they have a better understanding of the problems and challenges and become empowered through bouts of training. During the implementation of the programs, the responsible team holds workshops where people gather, inspired by the common goal of making changes for the betterment of their society. Participants actively present in weekly meetings, share experiences and knowledge gained from practices, socialize, consult, explore, and create sustainable changes in the long term. While people try to build an independent, productive, and capable community, the social bonds will strengthen, which results in a united community.

Planting Hope's endorsed programs provide training sessions with an all-encompassing curriculum. This includes subjects like environmental awareness, community health, the essence of team cohesion, the intricacies of community-building, and the importance of nurturing nature for successive generations. The sessions underscore the varied benefits of trees, ranging from their role in food production to their contribution to rainfall and soil enrichment. They also delve into urban-centric challenges, such as efficient waste handling and the repercussions of pollution, coupled with mitigation techniques. Attendees are also trained in hands-on skills, like planting, tending to, and harvesting trees, monitoring growth, and setting up nurseries. The overarching goal of these sessions is twofold: to equip communities with proficiency in agroforestry and economic strategies and to kindle a sense of collective purpose and collaboration.

14. Who are the owners of the trees planted?

The trees belong to the local people. They nurture and harvest fruits, nuts, and other products, and we ensure our program benefits the local people and communities in all possible aspects.

The Ministry of Finance has recognized TwoWings as a humanitarian organization founded in 1996 in Austria. Your donations to the Planting Hope project are tax deductible.
